There when you need them

When it gets down to it, most of us only reach out to our hosting provider when something goes wrong. I use SiteGround to host three websites. When I've needed them, they've been there via Live Chat and have always had a solution. Today was doing my head in, two plugins were playing up and I was locked out. SiteGround managed to deactivate one for me and then I could log in. As at writing this review, I'm still waiting for responses to the tickets logged with the two plugin providers - both paid-for plugins.

Honestly one of the best and most helpful support agents I have come across in my web development career of some 20 years. We just migrated to Site Ground today and the files did not come across cleanly for whatever reason, so I had already spent the whole day sorting out the sites and adding the site to Site Ground's free Cloudflare CDN. Hours later I receive UptimeRobot warning of sites down.

Plamen diagnosed the problem and found I was missing some DNS records on Cloudflare. He talked me through the changes, and the site came straight back up in minutes. He patiently answered all my questions. For our first day with Site Ground, we are really impressed. AAAA+++ hosting support

Let me see how long still this issue is continuing without proper support .. This would help us to move out of siteground seriously . lets explore better option .totally wasted ourtime . please consider this is high priority and try to solve the issue asap .

Poor service - worse product - living on past glories

Siteground was meant to be this fantastic hoster. They aren't. We have over 55 sites we manage in Nz and more over seas. I wanted to migrate them to managed WordPress hosting so I am freed up to work on other parts of the business.
We decided to Give SG a go as it had good reviews. Actually it doesn't. Don't look at the stars - read the current reviews. They are getting crucified in current reviews.
Long story short. Signed up for advanced dedicated cloud services with the intention of going Super sized if it worked out.
**Site 1 - Migrator failed following their instructions. Then the portal started throwing errors. Help no help at all. Closed tickets claiming no issues despite me providing a screen shot showing the issues in the portal. When an app puts big red signs saying error I tend to suspect something is amiss.
**Site 2 - Made a temp domain, migrator failed. didn't bring across plugins, themes etc. Portal hung. White screens. Red errors. Restarted browser (suspect their cache is messed up) and got back in. Cant find the site in the portal. Can access it using temp domain name. Uploaded Updraft, migrate site across. Worked ( after 15-30 minutes or killing cache, reloading browsers, killing cache plugins they added, turning off cache in portal) finally worked. Then changed domain to the new domain. Their domain changer failed. Thousands of urls not change din the DB and issues with the wp-config. Had to manually fix.
** Site 3 - Added the real domain name in, used the migrator. Failed. Help chat says it is because my source server wont let the migrator look at log files in the web folder.. no site worth its salt lets anyone view log files from a public IP. That's a good way to get hacked. log files do not get served to the public. SG requires you to allow them to see it with public access. Wow!!! Secure NOT!!
**site 4. so far only one site running. 8 hours in. SG says if I pay $30 per site they will migrate them. Seriously? That's USD$1650 because their systems suck.
Tried starting a brand new site, using the wizard, with a temp domain name, no migration, purely SG website. Failed. Tried to upload a plugin. nGnx error. Tried to install plugin using wordpress standard plugin library (e.g. Akismet / classic editor) faile.d White screen. Site cant be found. Site cant be accessed. Site cant be seen in portal.
Help will migrate my sites for $USD1650, They wont engage in discussions - denying portal issues despite screen shots. They want you to do really stupid insecure things. Told me I couldn't escalate the chat - which is wrong as it is in their SOP. Total fail.

Extra note. The SG response below blames everyone else but their systems while not engaging with why their portal threw errors and refused to even start a site directly ... no migration. It seems this was my failure for wanting to use their services and my servers failure. Hmmmm. When asking to talk to supervisor - I made a mistake and asked to talk to manager - and was told I cant. No check to see if one was on. Blank refusal. Not checked to see if there was one. I tried on two different chats.
Alternative migrator worked perfectly from src to new cpanel. Failed src to you.
Doesnt explain portal errors.
But obviously all my fault too.
Requiring a remote server to allow remote viewing of log files is a security breach. They dont automagically allow one log created on the fly and not others. How about saving the log as html or .txt. or passing it back to the dest server with other files? That's not insecure

AVOID - Charged £30 to access my files & backup

Two year package purchased - No huge issues through that time... However, coming to renewal was the problems started. I've now been told I have to pay £30 to access my files and to download a back-up. Customer service turned nasty and gave a number of excuses and arguing that this isn't a service hosting providers offer - I've always downloaded my files!

Really, REALLY disappointed and will be sure to take both my business and that of my clients elsewhere.
